Cadet of the Month

This past summer, I attended a residential research event at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. I learned about physics topics and the state of the field of modern theoretical physics. This was a good experience as I am hoping to pursue a physics degree in my future. The food was really good and I enjoyed the variety of options at Brown. The weather was also nice half the time. The other half it was rainy.

I owe a lot of my success to the JROTC program. A lot of practice tests, repetition, and late nights were put into preparing for the test a year ago. Going through those experiences gave me an opportunity to put into practice lessons learned in the JROTC program, like time management and goal setting.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is awarded to around fifteen thousand people a year. To qualify as a semi-finalist, a student will need to take the PSAT test in the fall of their junior year and earn a qualifying score. I took the PSAT last year. I scored a 1470, with a perfect 760 math section and a 710 reading/grammar section. This was equivalent to a 218/228 selection index, and the qualifying score for this year was 211 in Alabama. Next, to become a finalist and receive the scholarship, I am filling out an application and writing an essay.

Other academic accomplishments since I've come back to school include a 36 composite ACT score, and class rank number one for the class of 25.
